Restrung bakelite, catalin or French bakelite graduated necklace. We tested this necklace with Simi chrome and it tested positive. However it flunked the rub and hot water test. So this may be catalin, French baklelite or possibly lucite.
The beads do have the texture and proper swirls. But we are just not sure of this one. This necklace was restrung by someone as the clam shell hardware at the ends of the necklace look brand new as well as the string. But it does seem to be lighter in weight than bakelite for beads this size.
It measures 16" long. The largest bead is 15mm in diameter and the smallest beads are 8mm. Weight is 28 grams. Excellent shape.
Some info on Bakelite testing:
Weight- Bakelite tends to feel heavier compared to catalin.
Smell Test- When heated by water or rubbed briskly, bakelite emits a distinct chemical odor similar to formaldehyde, while catalin does not have this characteristic smell.
