I have never seen another!

From my vintage shop that closed in the 1990's. I have been slowly going through storage and listing stock.

This is a gently worn hand made 1949 cotton dressing gown which has song titles from the movie South Pacific in script. The titles are printed on the fabric. The song titles are as follows:

South Pacific

Bali Ha'i

Dites-moi

Some Enchanted Evening

Happy Happy Talk

I'm In Love With a Wonderful Guy

Songs were by Rodgers & Hammerstein for the 1949 movie.

This feather weight soft cotton robe (almost like a cotton waffle pique') was made cut on the bias and it is a wrap style gown which ties on the inside and has a hand sewn on hook and eye closure (sloppily done) on the side of the waist.

Big and deep 8 x 8" pocket on the front.

It has belt loops, but sadly the matching fabric belt is long gone.

It has cuffed sleeves with a plunging necklace.

The the seam on the facing on the back of the neck has pulled away in one very small area. No big whoop. There are no holes, stains or fading and it is completely sound structurally. And CLEAN. Hem at the bottom is about 1/2".

The interior facing has been hand pinked and has very slight fraying on the edges. No big whoop.

I will try to give you the measurements as best as I can. It was measured flat.

The length from the shoulder to the bottom of the hem is approx. 52" long.

It is approx: 14" across the waist when wrapped. So approx. 28" waist.

The sleeves are 14" long from the top of the robe.

This a a wonderful collector's item. Since it was hand made, I doubt you will ever see another one like it! More of an item to display than wear in my opinion, or for movie wardrobe use.
